Product Description
A crane ropes strength is generally referred to as the minimum breaking load or force (MBL), it is possible to increase the MBL for most rope diameters in two ways:
By increasing the tensile strength of the actual wire used during the manufacturing process the MBL will increase. 1770N/mm², 1960N/mm² & 2160N/mm² are common wire tensile grades used in crane ropes. It is also feasible to raise the steel fill factor of the rope to increase its strength further. The fill factor measures cross sectional areas of the rope.
A more effective way of increasing the strength of a rope is to compact them; the individual strands may be compacted which reduces the number of voids throughout the rope as well as increasing the surface contact area. This type of compacted wire rope has many other benefits which are discussed on our compacted wire rope page. Lower stress levels take place when conventional ropes are changed for compacted wire ropes, frequently resulting in easier operation and longer working life. This is why the majority of our crane ropes ar compacted.
The LKS 8-7 CP is a rope with 8 compacted outer strands and plastic padding. This combination provides high breaking forces and high stability, coupled with enhanced protection from inner rope damages and enviorenmental influences.
Compacted • 8-Strand • Inner Plastified Wire ropes
This wire rope belongs in the non rotation resistant classification but its strands are compacted and it is used mainly as luffing wire rope on high efficiency ship & harbour mobile cranes, container bridge cranes, overhead travelling hoists, mineral loading cranes.
It is an 8-strand construction, very flexible and suitable for use on many crane brands installed on board.
These wire ropes are usually produced as drawn galvanized and internally and externally lubricated, which makes them corrosion resistant and durable against the various harsh marine environment factors.
Additionally, these ropes are produced with an extruded inner plastic layer, which ensures water impermeability and elimination of point contact between wires & strands of the inner and outer layers.
This extra protection from corrosion and inner contact, prolongs the useful service life of the ropes.
Attention must be paid in the installation of the new rope on board, its running-in (bedding in) period and load and the inspection before and after every usage.
Diligent production processes, raw material selection and quality control in all stages of production ensure a long and trouble free service life.
