Significant distortion of the rope

The Wire Rope sling shall be discarded when distortion due to kinking, crushing, core collapse, or knotting is identified. However, in certain circumstances, permanent deformation may occur without necessarily affecting the strength of the sling, e.g. flat­tening when the rope is bent around a small diameter under heavy loading.
In cases where it is difficult to distinguish between detrimental distortion and acceptable deformation, the sling shall be withdrawn from service and referred to a competent person for examination.
